The Evil Within Creators Reveal Its Development in Video

Resident Evil creator Mikami & others discuss bringing horror back to survival-horror genre

Game news website IGN began streaming a nine-minute "making of" video for Tango Gameworks' The Evil Within survival horror game on Monday. The video includes interviews with staff members such as producer Masato Kimura, art director Naoki Katakai, and the director himself, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. They discuss the genesis of the game and their aim to bring back the horror elements that have been downplayed in the genre recently.

The story follows a detective named Sebastian and his partner as they head to the scene of a ghastly mass killing. Sebastian then witnesses the other police officers get killed off one by one, and when the unknown assailant attacks him, he loses consciousness. He wakes up in a world of madness where apparitions lurk and death is never far away.

The game (to be known as Psycho Break in Japan) will arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and "next-generation consoles" via Bethesda Softworks next year. It will use an enhanced version of the id Tech 5 software engine and be presented in cinematic 2.35:1 aspect ratio.
