World's Largest UFO Catcher Prize Machine Unveiled

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Families play 3-story claw machine containing mascot bears for Toyota car commercial

The world's largest UFO catcher prize machine (similar to a claw crane game), which reaches the height of a three-story building, will stand in Tokyo's Roppongi Hills building complex. Toyota Marketing Japan is recruiting families to try the machine in a commercial for the Ractis subcompact car. Families can go to Roppongi Hills on October 8 from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and register to play the machine for the commercial.

The Ractis UFO Catcher stands 9 meters tall, 12.1 meters wide, and 13.3 meters deep. The machine contains 180-centimeter stuffed Rakuma bears, the Ractis car's campaign mascot character. More than ten video cameras will be shooting the event as families cooperate to operate the machine's giant levers and button.

On the same day, the commercial's song will be recorded using participants' voices. Musician Torio Ōbashi wrote the music and will appear to record the song's promotional video.

Participants will receive no pay for taking part in the Ractis commercial, and not all attendees will appear in the final commercial. Full details for the event will only be available at the UFO catcher's set-up location.
