Nice, I was looking forward to the other series from Hyouka and Shoushimin's franchises to be animated.

Hoping that the other cases will follow too.

Unpopular opinion but I really disliked Hyouka, it was a pretty generic "YA detective" with failed romance. The only saving grace was KyoAni level of animation and good seiyuu work in the anime. So I am concerned a decent staff will be wasted again on medicore story.

Damn.... When I saw the name of the author in the article followed by TV anime, I though we were gonna get a sequel to Hyouka but alas. Hyouka is my favourite series from KyoAni but I might check this one out since its from the same author. Maybe it'll give me even a semblance of what I felt when I watched Hyouka for the first time.

Oh, so this is from the same type of series as Hyouka? That explains the similarities.

I hope it turns out well.

After I had to quickly change my expectations of Hyouka from being primarily a mystery/detective series to a fairly nuanced character study, with the fairly trivial cases serving as vehicles to reveal hidden aspects of the cast, I genuinely grew to love it as one of the more subtly presented dramas of the 2010's. I'm not sure how much of that was originally present in the novels, or whether it could chiefly be attributed to the Kyoani staff, but it certainly was the best melding of their focus on incidental body movement to depict unspoken emotions to come out of the studio until Liz & the Blue Bird.

We'll see how much this adaptation can live up to that pedigree, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

The director did The Perfect Insider, too, which is probably the most relevant credit to this book (without the benefit of having read it.)

I agree Hyouka was a very flawed, and somewhat overrated anime, and I will absolutely defend anyones right to criticise it... But also, I do consider Hyouka worth watching, and this looks worth watching too, so I'm looking forward to it.

Like I finished it, but I regret it, so I am hesitant to watch anything based on this authors book again. Despite the studio doing pretty good job om DGMF.
