I enjoyed Punpun (even though it made me depressed) so I think I will check this one out especially since it only has 11 volumes.

I also hope the announcement turns out to be for an anime adaptation. I'm hoping for a Punpun adapt as well in a future announcement, but I think this one will do for now.

The shoehorned politics made me drop it, I can stand cute boys turning into girls but when they put Trump in a literal trashcan it was way too ridiculous.

I really want to read the series since I loved Punpun but seeing this sadly puts me off a bit. Is it all in good fun or is it dead serious bashing? I'm fine with a bit of politics if it doesn't take itself seriously or at the very least takes jabs at everyone and everything.

No, thankfully Asano actually has a spine and doesn't do that kind of epic enlightened centrism nonsense when rightly making fun of orange man.

So he goes pretty hardcore? Well damn that's disappointing. I'll probably still give it a read at some point, but it sounds like I'm gonna be rolling my eyes quite often while reading.

"Shoehorned politics" lmao. The whole manga is basically a political thriller about xenophobia and militarization, and you're mad the author has a political stance? Get over it lol.

Wait this is a political thriller? I thought this was a cute girls doing cute things type of series with a dash of seriousness. Since you seem to have read the series I have a few questions relating to what you said. Was I completely wrong about the cute girls doing cute things part? You also say it deals with with xenophobia and militarization does Asano actually dive into the Japanese side of those things or does he not have the guts? Based on the comments it sounds like he talks about America, but what about everyone else?

I can see how it would seem like CGDCT on the surface, but yeah it gets a lot more serious and broad plot-wise as it continues (it is Asano after all lol); think SoL drama mixed with District 9 and global politics. I think it is probably a bit more comical/satirical in some aspects compared to other Asano works though. Also, it's been a little bit since I last paused reading it after I caught up, but there are definitely criticisms of Japanese politics/culture in there as well. Just check these pages for example:
