Honestly seems like pretty bad numbers for Mary and the Witch's Flower considering the number of theaters it opened in. Not that I'm terribly surprised with a brand new studio's first production, but I hope they didn't set their expectations too high just based on Yonebayashi and Ghibli ties. He's great, but not a name most will recognize.
Hopefully it hits $20,000,000 or so by the end of its run. And ideally a few million in China and throughout the rest of the world. Not much info on the NGNL movie here, but the ranking seems to suggest it is also doing really poorly. Guess that spells doom for a potential second season.... |
